There’s nothing quite like a bowl of sizzling hot Japanese ramen noodle soup! Even more so when you’re a weary traveler in need of sustenance or like me flagging due to working overnight at the airport (argh!).
Sure there are so many ramen restaurants in Hong Kong but Ajisen Ramen gets my thumbs up due to its high quality food even for a fast food restaurant. And with over 700 outlets across China, they do know a thing or two about ramen. You can find Ajisen Ramen at Hong Kong International Airport (Level 5 (non-restricted area) and there is another one at Level 7 (restricted area), Terminal 1).
So back to me…I was STARVING after working non-stop for hours and was in desperate need of a pick-me-up. It was 3am and almost all of the airport eateries had already closed, but there it was Ajisen Ramen – a godsend amongst all the closed doors as their restaurant in the non-restricted area operates around the clock! Even better, there are several vegetarian options on the menu (I am vegetarian), so I was one very happy customer!
I first ordered a bowl of Assorted Vegetable Ramen, which was loaded with not only delicious ingredients but highly nutritious ones. Mushrooms, corn kernels, black fungus, carrot, enoki, to name some and the noodle itself did not disappoint – it was cooked al dente just the way it should be. The soup base is pork broth, but vegetarians can request to change it to a clear broth or choose to upgrade to a tomato soup base.
I hadn’t eaten anything since dinner, so a mere bowl of ramen wasn’t going to cut it. So, I ordered some Deep Fried Bean Curd and Fried Mixed Vegetables. The tofu was crispy on the outside and perfectly soft inside; and the mixed veggies (assorted mushrooms, onion, carrot, and cabbage) were so tasty with just the right amount of seasoning.
There are other vegetarian snacks to choose from as well. The Sweet Potato Tempura and Vegetable Potato Cake are also my favorites. And after such a satisfying meal, I was refueled and raring to go. So, all that was left to say was domo arigato, Ajisen Ramen!
