No matter how much I love to travel, I always end up missing Hong Kong’s food, especially the delights of my beloved Cha Chaan Teng (tea restaurant). During a recent flight, I couldn’t get the thought of Hong Kong-style milk tea and other yummy local snacks out of my mind. So, without further ado after landing into Hong Kong, my friend and I aimed straight for Hong Kong Delights (Level 6, Terminal 2), a Hong Kong-style restaurant, to satisfy our urgent craving.
Hong Kong Delights offers typical Cha Chaan Teng dishes – from Guangdong cuisine to Western food, but all with a Hong Kong twist. This no-frills eatery has a menu that simply provides eaters with almost anything they could desire. And best of all for me, they have over twenty vegetarian choices, yay!
What’s more, they also have “Food Stall Noodles” (also known as Cart Noodles), which you don’t find in every tea restaurant. Cart Noodles are a local specialty originating in Hong Kong back in the 1950s. You choose your own ingredients for your soup noodles, including the type of noodle and soup base. I plumped for the mouthwatering deep fried bean curd puffs, mushrooms and marinated egg. And I wasn’t disappointed! In particular, their special curry paste gets my thumbs up as this simply made the dish for me.
My friend ordered the Sweet & Sour Egg Bean Curds – this is actually a replica of the classic Sweet & Sour Pork dish, but instead of using pork, it uses the Japanese Tamago Tofu. The Tamago Tofu was velvety smooth, stirred with beautiful green and red bell peppers, onions, and my favorite sweet and sour sauce – simply delicious.
Fortunately, even after this little lot, our stomachs still had room for some lovely Steamed Rice Rolls – a very popular breakfast food in Hong Kong. The rolls were steaming hot-just how they should be and came with a special sweet sauce and also a sesame sauce, and lived up to all our expectations. Other authentic local delicacies including Pineapple Buns with Butter, Crunchy Buns with Butter and Condensed Milk, and French Toast.
There is no doubt that Hong Kong Delights is indeed a perfect place for both Hong Kongers and overseas visitors who want to have a “taste” of Hong Kong!
