I am not a big fan of airplane food, so one of my go-to places at Hong Kong International Airport would be Pizza Express. Their vast open dining area resembles their other branches- with minimalistic design and dim-lighting decorated with a cozy white and blue colour scheme which definitely rings a British vibe. The restaurant has a lounge area that looks over the apron. Watching incoming and outgoing planes is an added bonus for those who want to relax prior to their long-haul flight.
A wide selection of starters and side dishes, mains and desserts are available. And as a supporter of the Green Monday initiative, they even offer a separate vegetarian menu for the keen herbivores or anyone who just wants a lighter meal before their flight.
Undoubtedly, my favorite has always been their pizza- in particular, the Margherita Prima Romana Pizza! The slices of mozzarella cheese were melted on top of an evenly spread layer of traditional San Marzano tomato sauce and all were rested on well-kneaded thin and crispy Romana pizza base garnished with fresh basil. This timeless Italian classic is definitely highly recommended. And the one at Pizza Express might have been the best in town I have tried thus far.
Of their pasta selection, Spaghetti Aglio Olio must be my favorite. It literally translates to garlic and oil. The spaghetti was lightly tossed in minced garlic and chili oil garnished with parsley. Looks can be deceiving- but trust me, this is a flavor bomb waiting to explode in your mouth. And all you need to make this dish complete is some parmesan cheese and freshly grinded black pepper.
Is your mouth watering yet? Pizza Express is located just adjacent to the food court after Immigration and Customs on Level 7. And if you try out their vegetarian menu on Mondays, there is 10% off! Did I mention there is a takeaway menu as well? Bring it on the plane and your neighbors will most likely be envious of your meal!
