Macau Harbour Restaurant at Level 6 Terminal 2 (non-restricted area) might be the perfect choice if fast food joints are something you want to avoid. In addition to Macanese specialties, it also offers Taiwanese cuisine, as well as local Hong Kong dishes such as popular items in “cha chaan teng” (local Hong Kong cafes).Green dishes are highlighted in a special menu with more than a dozen vegetarian options, saving me the hassle of pinpointing the meatless choices in the main menu.
I was in no particular hurry on the day of my visit, therefore I allowed myself to enjoy a big meal. French beans mixed with garlic is a common appetizer in Taiwan. Long green beans are quickly boiled and chilled, then mixed with a garlic puree. The beans were crunchy with intense flavours from the garlic puree. The garlic flavour completes this simple dish with a slight “kick”. In case garlic is not your cup of tea, plenty of other choices of appetizers are available. Sliced Lotus Roots with Spicy-Cayenne Sauce and Deep Fried Bean Curd with Taiwanese Sauce would be my other recommendations!
I am into richer and flavorful food in winter, so I went with the baked rice with mixed vegetables in curry sauce as my main course. Rice was put into the baking dish along with chunks of potatoes, broccoli, cabbage, collard greens and tomatoes, which were all mixed with the perfect amount of curry sauce topped with a sprinkle of bread crumbs. The curry sauce was reminiscent of a Portuguese style – slightly spicy but had a strong coconut aroma. I particularly loved the potatoes which were cooked with a slight crunch on the outside and soft and sweet inside. And the portion was more than enough even for someone like me who has a huge appetite.
Afterwards, I still managed to enjoy a glass of Taiwanese bubble tea before boarding. Yet again, with a satisfying made the perfect conclusion to my visit to Hong Kong International Airport!
