We’ve all been there…where we’ve looked longingly at the entrance to the business class lounges with our economy class ticket in hand that doesn’t quite cut it. But those days are gone thanks to Plaza Premium Lounge, the world’s first independent pay-in lounge. Launched back in 1998 at Hong Kong International Airport, Plaza Premium Lounge has made a huge success of this gap in the market now operating in more than 120 locations in 31 airports globally (https://www.plaza-network.com/locations).
For a reasonable fee, regardless of your airline or ticket class, you can now fully enjoy all Plaza Premium Lounge’s facilities at Hong Kong International Airport including hot showers, massage chairs, internet access, live CNN news, newspapers, magazines, and of course, their all-day food and beverage buffet. (Location at HKIA, Departure and Arrival)
This time I was catching the red-eye to London, and unfortunately, my flight was delayed due to poor weather: big sigh and arghhh! I was STARVING and most of the airport restaurants had already closed, so the 24-hour Plaza Premium Lounge was a godsend, definitely my port of heaven and haven! Once inside, I was spoilt for choice, with their wide selection of high-quality international cuisine. I ate to my heart’s content whilst kicking back on their comfortable lounge sofas which made dealing with those onerous work emails and documents far more bearable than usual!
And for the vegetarians out there, Plaza Premium Lounge also provides some good options. There’s a fresh salad bar with plenty of healthy greens, plus my beloved Hong Kong-style flour rolls with peanut and sweet sauce, crispy veggie spring rolls and samosas, to name just a few. But my standout favorite has to be their made-to-order burrito bar – I got myself a scrumptious spinach tortilla filled with rich guacamole and a lovely dollop of sour cream, finished off with crunchy lettuce and fresh cucumber slices, it was simply delightful!
But the highlight of the night by far was their complimentary in-lounge seated massage service which I took advantage of post meal, and it certainly made the flight delay and all those work emails far easier to swallow!
