Sometimes you just need carbs – good old fashioned bread as comfort food before boarding. One of the best places to head in the airport has to be Subway (Level 5, Terminal 2), the world’s largest submarine sandwich franchise over 40,200 restaurants in over 104 countries.
If you’ve never come across a “submarine” or a “sub” before, it’s a type of sandwich consisting of a baguette with a range of tasty fillings. It’s an excellent choice for grabbing something freshly made whilst darting around the airport if you have no time for that leisurely meal.
Subway offers a couple of meat-free subs, my favorite is their Veggie Patty. This wholesome slice of patty is made from a fantastic recipe that includes soy, carrots, corn and red peppers, with just the right amount of seasoning. Filled with plenty of greens too,it’s absolutely delicious!
They also have different types of bread to choose from, I had the Parmesan Oregano which was freshly toasted, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. And last but not least is the sauce! What I like about Subway is they have up to ten different kinds of sauce for the subs, like Sweet Onion, Honey Mustard and Chipotle Southwest, to name just a few. I got myself the low-fat Honey Mustard, which with its sweet and sour taste was the perfect accompaniment for my veggie patty sub.
Another vegetarian sub is the Veggie Delite, which is loaded up on veggies including lettuce, tomatoes, green peppers, cucumbers, pickles, olives, and onions. If you want to spice things up, there’s also hot and pungent jalapeno. For the health conscious, each Subway outlet lists the calorie and fat content of its subs. Who says fast food can’t be healthy?!
Other than sandwiches, Subway also provides freshly baked cookies. I couldn’t resist the White Chip Macadamia Nut Cookie, the Raspberry Cheesecake Cookie, and the Double Chocolate Chip Cookie. Life is too short, after all!
